Airports never close. Doors in terminals, jet bridges, baggage areas and employee corridors cycle around the clock. Hardware must be durable, easy to service, and consistent from one door to the next. The DN-9500 is a Grade 1 closer for that kind of duty.
A secured door that does not fully close and latch defeats access control. A reliable closer is a simple part of airport security hardware. Doors in rated stairwells and corridors must self-close and latch (NFPA 80, NFPA 101); the DN-9500 is UL listed and 3-hour fire rated on rated assemblies. Check any requirements from the airport authority and local code.
Under the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design (section 404), interior hinged doors must open with no more than 5 lbf, and a closer must be adjusted so the door takes at least 5 seconds to swing from 90Β° to 12Β° from the latch. Fire doors are the exception on opening force: the authority having jurisdiction sets the minimum. Always check local code and your AHJ.

Transit stations share the 24/7 duty of airports but add their own challenges: piston-effect air pressure from trains, street-level weather, vandalism and NFPA 130 egress design. We cover them on a dedicated page.
Airside doors, jet bridge doors and baggage areas open directly to the ramp, with jet blast, wind and extreme cold. Size up, set backcheck firmly and re-check closing speed before winter, when hydraulic fluid thickens. Our exterior door closer page details the settings, and stairwell door closers covers terminal stairs.
