An office building has very different doors under one roof: heavy glass or metal lobby entrances, lighter tenant suite doors, and fire-rated stair and corridor doors. A single Grade 1 adjustable closer simplifies purchasing: size 1β6 power lets you set each door correctly.
In high-rise buildings, temperature differences between inside and outside create a stack effect that pushes air through lobbies and stairwells. This can make doors hard to close or hard to open. Use an adjustable closer, set the latch speed so the door fully latches, and then verify opening force.
Under the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design (section 404), interior hinged doors must open with no more than 5 lbf, and a closer must be adjusted so the door takes at least 5 seconds to swing from 90Β° to 12Β° from the latch. Fire doors are the exception on opening force: the authority having jurisdiction sets the minimum. Always check local code and your AHJ.
Stair and corridor fire doors must self-close and latch (NFPA 80, NFPA 101). The DN-9500 is UL listed and 3-hour fire rated when used on a rated assembly.

Suite entry doors are the most-used doors in a multi-tenant office building. Whether they must be self-closing depends on whether the corridor is rated, which varies with occupancy, sprinklers and the code edition, so check with the building official. Even where not required, closers keep suites secure and quiet. Landlords often specify one closer model in tenant design criteria; the DN-9500 suits busy entries and the aluminum DN-8220 suits interior suite doors.
Office towers rely on stairwell doors that close and latch against stack effect and stair pressurization, on server rooms and IT closets that must stay closed for security and fire suppression (see data center and server room door closers), and on mechanical, electrical and loading dock doors that take heavy use. Garages under office buildings add pressurized lobby doors; see underground parking garages.
