Live venues have two very different modes: intermission, when every door opens at once, and performance, when a slammed door ruins the moment. A Grade 1 closer with adjustable closing and latch speeds lets you set doors for quiet, reliable operation in both.
Auditoriums and concert venues are assembly occupancies with strict egress requirements (NFPA 101). Doors in rated corridors and stairs must self-close and latch (NFPA 80). The DN-9500 is UL listed and 3-hour fire rated when installed on a rated assembly.
Under the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design (section 404), interior hinged doors must open with no more than 5 lbf, and a closer must be adjusted so the door takes at least 5 seconds to swing from 90Β° to 12Β° from the latch. Fire doors are the exception on opening force: the authority having jurisdiction sets the minimum. Always check local code and your AHJ.
Test doors at both low and peak traffic, and confirm that accessible routes remain easy to use.

At intermission, every lobby door opens at once. Pairs of doors need one closer per leaf and a coordinator where an astragal overlaps. Set backcheck so crowds cannot throw doors into walls, and keep closing speed steady so doors are not swinging back into the next patron. Exterior lobby doors face wind, covered on our exterior door closer page.
Backstage corridors, scene shops and loading docks see road cases and equipment; wide doors with delayed action prevent damage. Acoustic (STC-rated) doors to the house and rehearsal rooms are heavy and sealed, so they need higher power and latch speed; see door closers for heavy doors. Houses of worship with large sanctuaries share many of these needs; see our church door closer page.
