Hotels need hardware that is durable and nearly silent. Guests notice slammed doors; owners notice replacement costs. A Grade 1 closer with adjustable speed and latch control keeps corridors quiet and maintenance calls low.
Hotel guest room doors and corridor doors are generally required to be self-closing and latching as part of life safety design. Check the code and the door label for every opening, and use hardware listed for the door. The DN-9500 is UL listed and 3-hour fire rated on rated assemblies; for guest room entry doors, verify the assembly and the closer sizing that your jurisdiction and brand standards require.
Under the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design (section 404), interior hinged doors must open with no more than 5 lbf, and a closer must be adjusted so the door takes at least 5 seconds to swing from 90Β° to 12Β° from the latch. Fire doors are the exception on opening force: the authority having jurisdiction sets the minimum. Always check local code and your AHJ.
Accessible guest rooms should be tested so doors are easy to open and still close fully.

Guest room doors are the doors guests notice most. They must close and latch every time for security and fire safety, but a slam at midnight brings complaints. Set closing speed for a smooth sweep, lower latch speed until the door seats softly, then confirm it still latches with the corridor HVAC running. Accessible rooms need low opening force and at least 5 seconds of closing time from 90Β° to 12Β°.
Pool and spa areas bring humidity and chlorine; many local codes require doors leading to pools to be self-closing and self-latching. Fitness rooms and spas share the needs described on our gym door closer page. Back-of-house doors (kitchens, laundry, housekeeping) take carts all day, so delayed action and firm backcheck help. Resort entrances and exterior stairs are covered on our exterior door closer page, and stairs on the stairwell door closer page.
