The DN-9500 is adjustable from size 1 to 6, so one model covers door widths from 23" to 59" and door weights from 44 to 440 lbs. As a general guide, lighter, narrower interior doors use the lower sizes, while wide, heavy or wind-exposed doors use the higher sizes. Set the closing speed, latch speed and delayed action after install, then verify ADA opening force and sweep time.
Under the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design (section 404), interior hinged doors must open with no more than 5 lbf, and a closer must be adjusted so the door takes at least 5 seconds to swing from 90° to 12° from the latch. Fire doors are the exception on opening force: the authority having jurisdiction sets the minimum. Always check local code and your AHJ.

Many facilities replace worn-out closers on corridors, stairwells and entrances with a Grade 1 cast iron surface closer. Before ordering, measure the door width and weight, note the hand of the door and whether it is fire rated, and check the mounting side (regular, top jamb or parallel arm). The DN-9500 is an extra heavy duty closer with adjustable power size 1–6, so a single model covers most openings from 23" to 59" and up to 440 lbs. Verify the mounting holes against your door before swapping a unit, and contact us if you need help matching a specific opening.
